I've added a page describing modifications and enhancments I made to Russ, AE4NY's fine QRP accessory, the "Guppy-WaTTa-PiG". This multifunction unit combines several NoGa (North Georgia QRP Club) kits, along with a Vectronics/MFJ CW Audio Filter, and some custom boards added by me. Russ can now use the unit with his various QRP transmitters, receivers and transceivers (and even his classic Hammarlund HQ-129 receiver).

I recently acquired a 2 meter FM transceiver. It's an older one, but it has up to 25 Watts output, which is pretty QRO for me. I do most of my work with batteries, even on the test bench. I needed a power supply for it, so naturally, I figured I'd build one. I have several old PC power supplies lying around, and I have over the years accumulated a lot of information on converting them to ham radio use. I'm happy to report success! I'm now on 2 meters, with up to 9 Amps at 13.5 Volts to burn! Pretty well filtered, at that, with some add-ons, with scope and spectrum analyzer screen captures to prove it. Of course, I documented all of this, and I'll be adding a section under "Finished Projects" for that one. Hmmm...I still need to finish the details on the SLA battery charger, as well.I'd also like to thank Mike, KO4WX and the QRP Amateur Club International's editorial staff for publishing my work on building the Log Power Meter in the current issue of QRP Quarterly.
While you're here, please check out my links at the bottom of this page. I've added a link to Markus, VE7CA's site, home of one of the most stunning homebrew achievements I've seen.

See the update on the Javelin portable vertical antenna under "Finished Projects". It's improved! Coming soon: my build of the AA4PB Sealed Lead Acid battery charger. I demoed the charger at a recent NoGa QRP Club meeting, and the guys were transfixed by the blinking red and green LEDs as the charger did its thing. I rotate the charger among my several 7 AH and 3.5 AH batteries, but Bob designed this ingenious circuit so that it could be used to charge a K2 battery under load; i.e., while using the rig. Check back for the link under "Finished Projects".

I've just completed my build of the W7ZOI/W7PUA Log Power Meter, with a bit of a twist. See the link to my step-by-step photos and description under "Finished Projects".

I've revised and extended the page on how I make PC boards, under Technical Solutions.

I've added a section of just plain "Good Ideas" to the web site.

I've recently completed a couple of projects. The most recent is the Sealed Lead Acid Battery Charger designed by Bob Lewis, AA4PB, that appeared in the May 2001 issue of QST. This charger is kind of unusual, and it can be used wile the rig is connected. Bob designed it with his K2 in mind. I'll be adding some photos to the site when I get the chance. The other project is a "neat" (showing my generational gap there; "sick" I believe is the current vernacular) little QRP dummy load. Check this one out; it really is...well, cute! I've also built and have been testing a single band 80 meter "MiniBoots" 5 Watt amp.

I've added a page under "Technical Solutions" about the modification of my SW20+ transceiver to improve the linearity of tuning.

Morse code key lovers, check out the links I've added that show off the homebrew key creations of Richard Meiss, WB9BLU. (Yes, you can build some of them yourself!)

I've started a new project, a CW/SSB QRP transceiver. Project work has been kid of slow recently, with the kickoff of SKCC, the Straight Key Century Club. I've been operating a LOT more than usual.
1/22/06The final photo for the "SKN Special" and the rig photos of the Challenger 40 are on their respective pages.

I've Added a Technical Solutions header here on the main page, with information on how to get certain legacy DOS applications to run under Windows XP, with the ability to do print screen. I've also added the Challenger 40 transmitter to the Completed Projects section, with a link to it's own page.
