Mcount Frequency Counter

Mcount

I already had a frequency counter, a Heatkit IM-2410 that I built years ago. However, it's always good to have a backup. The Mcount (a kit from Jackson Harbor Press) provides more than just backup capability for the workbench. It is battery powered and highly portable, great for in-the-field use along with the rest of my QRP stuff. The counter outputs in Morse code (speed selecectable from 5-35 WPM), and it has a range up to 50 MHz. As an option, this can be extended to 500 MHz with an add-on prescaler. It has selectable gate times of 100 mSec or 1 Second. The documentation describes the selectable features and menu system, which I won't go into here. Notice in the photo that there are only two controls: the On-Off switch, and the "Count" button, that does everything. The counting operation is very simple. You just plug your device to be counted into the RCA jack (or whatever you want to use) with a cable, turn it on, and it sends "FB" in Morse code. Then, just press the "Count" button to count. It sends your frequency in Morse. Nice! The price of the kit is nice, too: $19, shipping included.
